Press Play Film Festival presents you with ten days packed with special events, music, dancing and, of course, above all else, films.

Press Play is proud to be screening at one of Newcastle's finest cinemas and we've selected our favourite films from this year's festival circuit to show here...

Friday 24th September, 8pm
The Opening Night – The Extra Man

The Extra Man

What are you up to this Friday night? Head down to Tyneside Cinema for our opening film.

Paul Dano and Kevin Kline star in this stylish, strange and dazzling comedy of manners. It tells the tale of an eccentric shy young man who moves to New York, only to be taken under the wing of an even more eccentric older man – an escort for the wealthy widows of Manhattan high society. Adapted from a novel by Jonathan Ames and from the director of American Splendor, The Extra Man boasts one of Kevin Kline’s funniest ever performances.

The programme represents our love of cinema, old and new, remembered and forgotten, in an array of loved and playful spaces. We don't just want you to sit in the dark clutching your popcorn, we want you to dress up, sing- along, laugh, dance, ride your bikes and interact with the films. From the 1920s extravaganza of Bugsy Malone to the cut and splice mash-up of the EJECT party, from new comedy with The Extra Man to the golden oldie The Philadeplhia Story, we're sure there's something for everyone.
